Academic assessment at Woolf is of two kinds: formative assessment and cumulative assessment.
Formative assessment applies to the continuous, weekly, evaluation of student progress, concentrating on the submitted tutorial essays or dissertation components, and the ability of the student to respond to issues raised during the tutorial session.
Cumulative assessment applies to the written examinations, oral examinations, portfolio submissions, long essays, dissertations, and theses. These works require the students to deepen and extend the scholarly engagements initiated in their prior work.
Students who fail any one section of the degree (taught modules, methodology module, dissertation), cannot progress to complete the degree, and will by default fail the course. Failed modules may be re-taken solely at the discretion of Woolf’
